Al Dutcher, University of Nebraska Climatologist, “Weather & The 2012 Growing Season”
2011 was an exceptionally challenging year in regards to weather impacts on Agriculture.  Exceptional drought across the southern U.S., record flood events within the Missouri and Mississippi water shed, eastern corn belt planting delays due to excessive moisture, intense heat during corn pollination, and one of the earliest freezes on record across the northern corn belt.  We don't know what 2012 will bring to the nations farming community, but a second straight year of La Nina conditions will bring a repeat of conditions experienced last winter and set the stage for a repeat of problems experienced this spring.  This talk will look at what parts of the country are likely to experience weather events that have the potential to significantly impact grain production during 2012.

Lowell Sandell, University of Nebraska Weed Science Educator,
“Understanding & Controlling Herbicide Resistant Weeds in Corn & Soybeans Beans”

Herbicide resistant weeds are increasing in Nebraska.  This presents a challenge to the long-term sustainability of current weed control practices in corn and soybean.  This presentation will focus on defining the level of glyphosate resistance in marestail and giant ragweed, followed by information on the biology and management of these species.  We will also discuss how to development a diversified weed management plan to improve the sustainability of current weed management tools available in corn and soybean production.

Allan Vyhnalek, University of Nebraska Extension Educator, "Ag Land Cash Rent Update"
Land Values and Cash Rents have about doubled in the last 6 years.  More volatility is predicted for the future.  This session will do a brief look at the trends, then focus time on establishing relationships with the tenant and with the landlords that can endure in this landscape.  Clear consistent communication is the key to the future.  Common sense tips will be shared.  Landlords and tenants are encouraged to attend together.
